Why
should Lincoln voters support this important
Lincoln Public Schools bond issue?

places and dates to attend an informational
meeting.

On Valentines Day you will have the opportunity
to vote on a $250 million Lincoln Public Schools
bond issue that would fund projects affecting
children and neighborhoods across our entire
community.
NO TAX RATE INCREASE
TO LINCOLN CITIZENS
The 10.8 cent levy now used for school air
quality projects would be reallocated to pay
off the $250 million in bonds. Air-conditioning
and heating projects are included in this bond
issue.

Witherbee Holiday
Lighting Contest
Cold days, long nights and leaves
spread all over the lawn meant it was time to
take your holiday lights out of storage and join
neighbors in the second WNA holiday lighting contest.
Homes nominated were in the Witherbee Neighborhood
Boundaries (between 33rd and 56th Streets and
O to Randolph Streets).
Even though the temperatures for the first three
weeks in December were 7.1 degrees below normal,
down from the 4 to 6 degrees above normal that we
were used to the last four years, and snow covered
the ground most of the time, many neighbors braved
the cold and decorated for the season. If you haven't
taken the time to drive through the neighborhood
to see the lights print the list of nominated addresses
and take a look. The scenes, outlines, colors, ornaments,
blinking or steady lights are wonderful to see and
show the holiday spirit is alive.
Local businesses were solicited to donate prizes
for the event and the response was great. Prizes
included:
-
The elite lamp from Lincoln
Lighting Center (40th & O Street)
-
Free Haircut from Pink Flamingo
(40th & O Street)
-
Free Pedicure from Perfect
Ten Nails (36th & O Street)
-
$30 in meal deal cards from Runza
-
$70 in coupon(s) from Perkins
(48th & O Street)
Our celebrity judges, City Council member Dan Marvin
and Journal Star reporter Jonnie Taté Finn
were escorted around the neighborhood by the Lighting
Chair Person Karen Vogeley and Doug Evans to judge
the registered locations the evening of December
17th. Each location was judged on effective use
of lights, decorations, creativity and overall appearance.
First Place and bragging rights go to Randy
and Kathy Kaufman, 5101 M Street along with the
use of the WNA First Place Award Sign.
Runner up residences are at 4300 Witherbee
Boulevard and 5041 L Street. The prizes have been
awarded and the winners have been invited to the
next WNA meeting on January 5th to receive recognition
for their efforts.

Free
411 / Information for a Short Ad
Heres a quick tip thats worth the trouble,
we think: 1-800-FREE-411 (373-3411) is a totally
free directly service. How do they make money?
| The way it works in practice is that a caller
who requests a business number is first presented
with a short (about 12 seconds) audio advertisement
for a sponsor who operates a competing business
in that area; the caller is then given the option
of being connected to either that competitor
or the business he originally requested. If
no sponsor operates a local competing business,
then the caller hears no advertisement at all. |
So youll wait a hair longer than you would
with your phone companys directory service,
but we think 10-to-15 seconds of easily-ignored
ads are worth the $2 or more charge youll
often receive.
